Massachusetts
Massachusetts is very active in providing residents alternative energy choices. The umbrella organization is the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative Renewable Energy Trust which provides financial assistance to individuals and businesses for solar panels and wind turbines at their homes and facilities. You'll find information on programs to assist individuals, businesses and nonprofits, communities, entrepreneurs and developers.
If your project is for 10kW or less (which most home projects are) you may be eligible for the Small Renewables Initiative. You (and project site) must be a customer of a Massachusetts investor-owned electric distribution utility. Rebates may be used to facilitate the installation of solar photovoltaic, wind, and small hydro renewable energy projects to receive a rebate from MTC.
There are also some interesting opportunities for towns and cities to be energy independent under the Energy Choice Program including money to benefit low-income housing projects. You can find out which clean power options are available by selecting your town or city from a list on their site.
If you are an affordable housing developer you need to look at their Green Affordable Housing Initiative for possibilities for financing through partnerships with financing, development, and builder communities.
