Solar Energy Financial Incentives
State Rebate Programs
If you are thinking of installing solar equipment you should investigate the financial incentives that are available in the form of tax credits and/or rebates. If you've already tried but got lost on the information trail, you may get some direction in this section of Solar Energy Advisor. This section of our site is currently focused on rebates at the state level.
The majority of the programs are available from state agencies and municipally-owned utilities and support solar water heating and/or photovoltaic systems. Sectors that can recieve funds include residents and businesses, although some programs are available to industry, institutions, and property developers as well. Rebates range from $300 to well over $1 million. Many of the rebates are only available if you work with a qualified, solar experienced architect and/or contractor. The largest organization of such professionals is the Solar Energy Industries Association [http://www.seia.org/].
Our starting point was CESA, the Clean Energy States Alliance [http://www.cleanenergystates.org/Funds/]. Only 17 states belong to CESA and we haven't finished our research on the entire list. If your state isn't listed here yet, your best bet is to dive into the deep end at the North Carolina Solar Center - www.dsireusa.org.
